Four Signs That You Should Contact Your Gynecologist

Considering that your gynecologist deals with some of the most private parts of your body, visiting them is always easier said than done. For this reason, more often than not, most women prefer to get over-the-counter drugs or other DIY methods to infections or pains that they could have, thus evading visiting a gynecologist. However, as much as this may seem to help you solve the problem that you have, treating some of these issues on your own could end up causing more harm than good. Therefore, before you forego an important appointment with your gynecologist, you need to consider some of the risks that you could be exposing yourself to. Here are four sure-fire signs that you need to contact a gynecologist before it is too late.

Abnormal Vaginal Discharge or Odor

Ideally, vaginal discharges are a normal and healthy thing to have. However, when your discharge changes the color, texture, or even smell, then this could be a sign that all is not well. The change in your vaginal discharge could mean that you have a vaginal infection and, in some cases, a sexually transmitted disease. For instance, a discharge with a fishy smell and grayish color is a sign of bacterial vaginosis, which is a common infection with women. Therefore, do not hesitate to seek gynecological services soon as you realize it to help prevent a problem that could later become more complicated.

Pain and Problems with Urination

Like any other part of the body, it is possible to experience some little discomfort on your vagina even when nothing is wrong. However, when the pain is persistent and increases when urinating, then all is not right, and you need to visit a doctor. Symptoms such as pain when urinating, feeling the urge to urinate, and nothing comes out; lower abdominal pain and blood in urine, among others, show an infection with the bladder and urinary tract. If left untreated, this could result in more complicated kidney infections that will be even more complicated to rectify. Therefore, do not ignore such as pains as this could be the source of other complicated conditions.

Painful Sex

When there is a problem with your vagina, painful sex is one of the signs that you can have. Painful sex could be a result of lack of lubrication or low estrogen, which comes as a result of premenopausal or breastfeeding. Additionally, vaginal dryness, vaginal tears, vaginal infections, and vaginal lacerations, among others. Other reasons for painful sex could be such as uterine fibroids or tumors in the uterus. Therefore, make sure that you contact your doctor as soon as you can for a physical exam or tests that will help you know what the problem could be.

You Have Never Had a Period

Ideally, women eggs start maturing and start their menstrual cycle in their early teens. However, when one goes past seventeen years without their periods, then all is not well. The gynecologist will help you know some of the possible reasons for this and recommend on the possible solutions. Some of the reasons for never having your periods may be solved by visiting a gynecologist early enough.

Problems with your vagina could be complicated and have adverse effects on other parts of your body. For this reason, when you have any problem, it is advisable to visit a gynecologist as soon as you can. Above are four signs that you need to visit the gynecologist immediately.
