You must know more about Allegra Allergy in children before you administer you or your children with it so as to get the best results and at the same time avoid any chances of side effects and symptoms. Allegra comes with the generic name of Fexofenadine on the market. The brand name Allegra may also come differently such as:

  • Aller-Ease
  • Mucinex Allergy
  • Children’s Allegra Allergy and
  • Wal-Fex.

Children’s Allegra Allergy among all these is actually an antihistamine. This is primarily used to treat different symptoms of seasonal allergies such as hay fever. Do not be confused by the name Children’s Allegra Allergy because it is effective in adults as well.

Typically, part from hay fever, Children’s Allegra Allergy can also be used to treat several other conditions such as hives and skin itching in both adults and children that are known to be the results of chronic idiopathic urticarial. However, children less than 6 years old should not be administered with this medication.

Some important information

In order to make the best use of Children’s Allegra Allergy make sure that you do not take it with fruit juice because the effectiveness of the medication and its chemicals will be reduced with the acidic contents of fruits such as grapes, apples and oranges, especially.

  • In addition to that you must also make sure that before taking this medication that you are not allergic to any of its ingredients especially Fexofenadine which is the most active substance in it.
  • You will be better off when you ask a doctor or any pharmacist if this medication is safe for you to use especially if you know that you have a kidney disease.
  • Women wanting to use this drug should consult a doctor if they are pregnant or breastfeeding their baby currently.
  • If you have PKU or Phenylketonuria you must surely consult with your doctor before taking this medicine that may contain phenylalanine.

Older adults in particular may be much more sensitive to this medicine and its effects. That means if your age is 65 years or more, you must make it a point to ask your doctor whether or not you are fit enough to use Children’s Allegra Allergy.

How to take it

While taking the medicine, make sure that you take it exactly as directed on its label or as instructed by your doctor.

  • If you want to give it to your child, ask the doctor especially if you are child is not even two years old. It is said that this medicine is not fit for young children less than six years old due to the hazards of choking by these disintegrating or melting tablets.
  • Moreover, for children younger than 12 years of age should not be given any of the two special forms of this medicine namely the 12 hour and 24 hour forms.
  • While taking this medicine it must be taken with water and preferably on an empty stomach. This will ensure better results and fast absorption of the chemical contents of the medicine.
  • Place the disintegrating tablet on your tongue and do not chew it. Allow it to dissolve by its own and continue swallowing as it dissolves.
  • If you are using liquid or oral suspension make sure that you shake the bottle well before opening and pouring it in a medicine dose measuring device and not on a kitchen spoon. This will prevent overdosing.

If you notice anything that is unusual, get medical assistance or call your doctor if the symptoms worsen or do not improve.

To store the tablets, keep them away from heat and moisture. Whether it is a tablet or liquid, always store at room temperature and never in your fridge.
